Air Berlin to introduce EUR10 online booking fee to offset high fuel prices
(XFN-ASIA) - Air Berlin Plc. will start on 1-Jul charging customers a EUR10 service charge when they book their flights online, as rivals including Deutsche Lufthansa AG. already do, to offset surging fuel prices, Tagesspiegel reported, citing a company spokesman.

Service charges for bookings via the phone or at the airport will rise to EUR20 from EUR16, the spokesman said, according to an excerpt of an article to be published in Taggespiegel on Saturday. Airlines around the world are struggling to keep up their profitability amid surging oil and fuel prices and are trying to offset the added cost by charging customers more for their tickets and by reducing expenses elsewhere.
