Australia-Malaysia route abandoned by Qantas Group - Tiger Airways Australia looking to launch international services.
Following last week’s wholesale cuts to the Qantas Group’s international services, Jetstar have also undertaken further cuts to its international network by cutting its services to Malaysia after only nine months of operations.

Tony Davis, Chief Executive of Tiger Aviation, said “We are astonished that Qantas/Jetstar have turned their back on Malaysia, one of Australia’s most important trading partners, a powerhouse of economic growth in the region and an important growth market for inbound tourism. This decision means that no Australian based airline now serves Malaysia.”

Since Qantas/Jetstar announced they will be cutting their international routes, Tiger Airways has received representations from State and Territory governments and tourism groups across Australia asking for Tiger Airways to quickly “fill the gap”.

Tiger Airways stated it is currently exploring all opportunities to commence international routes using its Australian based crews and aircraft.

Tiger Airways is meeting with the Australian Government to discuss its plan to assist the Australian international tourism industry and to seek permission to mount international services.
