Tiger Airways to suspend Melbourne-Newcastle route from Aug 11
(XFN Asia) Tiger Airways announced it will suspend flights between Melbourne and Newcastle from 11-Aug-08 as it reallocates capacity to other markets within Australia, including Adelaide and Canberra.

Tiger Airways said “These announcements are integral to the airline's next stage of growth including the establishment of a second base [in Australia] and the expansion of the fleet with additional Airbus 320 and A319 aircraft to be delivered towards the end of this year."

Tiger Airways has not altered its expansion plans, the company said, even as soaring fuel costs are weighing on the aviation industry.

Meanwhile, the carrier has started imposing charges on passenger luggage, aiming to lower its operational costs.

Tiger Airways operates in the Asia-Pacific region and is 49% owned by Singapore Airlines Ltd.
