Norwegian expanding from its new Warsaw base.
Norwegian announced (23-Jun-06) plans to launch eight new routes from Warsaw, becoming the first LCC from outside Eastern Europe to establish a base in the region.

The carrier plans to launch services from Warsaws Frederic Chopin Airport to Alicante, Barcelona Girona, Malaga, Nice, Dublin, Stockholm, Rome and, Milan.

Norwegian is targeting expatriate labourers who have moved to Western European countries, such as Spain with the ascension of EU Union, but has access under the Single Aviation Market. Norwegian operates a fleet of 18 B737-300s, with only two fully-owned.

Norwegian expects to carry 5 million passengers in 2006 as it diversifies away from Oslo Airport, where its share of passengers increased to 16% in 2005, up from 12% in 2004. While it is a traditional LCC, the carrier does have block-space codeshare agreements with FlyNordic and Sterling on 13 European routes from Norway.
