Newcastle Airport welcomes Increased Jetstar services
From 1-Jun-08 travellers through Newcastle Airport will have access to even more direct flights between Newcastle and Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Melbourne. Jetstar will increase its services from Newcastle Airport with an additional 18 weekly return services.

Existing services are to be boosted by up to 50% with the three daily Newcastle-Brisbane flights increasing to four times daily and the existing double daily Newcastle-Melbourne flights to three times daily. A daily Newcastle-Gold Coast will also commence as a result of the increased flights (formerly operating three times weekly).

David Nye, Newcastle Airport Manager Corporate Affairs said, “These extra flights equate to an extra 6350 additional seats per week, further fostering the growth of Jetstar’s national aircraft maintenance base located at Newcastle Airport. “The impact of these new services will not only provide passengers with greater choice, but will have a significant and positive impact on the local economy.”

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the new services would be supported by a second based Airbus A320 aircraft positioned at Newcastle Airport from 1 June, bringing new pilot and cabin crew positions to the Region.

Mr Joyce said, “This significant boost to Jetstar’s interstate flying schedule from Newcastle Airport will continue to consolidate the airline as the largest and fastest growing carrier in the Hunter. Jetstar has made great leaps forward in building air services for the Hunter since our inaugural launch to the region four years ago. From offering just two daily return flights in May 2004 as of this weekend our offering has expanded to 56 weekly return services. This announcement of substantial new interstate flying from the Hunter continues to both  consolidate the Qantas Group’s presence in the market and will help underpin renewed efforts  to boost inbound tourism to the region.”

To coincide with the introduction of the additional flights, Jetstar have installed two self service check-in kiosks in the terminal. This will provide Jetstar passengers with three ways to check-in for their flights: online from home or office, via the new kiosks in the terminal or in person at the check-in desks.
