The agreement will allow passengers to earn frequent flyer rewards between both airlines through AirTran Airways' ‘A+ Rewards programme and Frontier's EarlyReturns programme.
The carriers will include an integrated route map and full list of destination options on their websites, almost doubling the destinations available to their passengers. Frontier, along with subsidiary Frontier JetExpress, offers services to 55 destinations, including seven Mexican and one Canadian destination. AirTran offers services to 52 US destinations.
Bob Fornaro, Chief Operating Officer of AirTran, stated Our feeling is we're getting a lot of the revenue benefits of a combined operation without the costs associated with it. What this will allow us to do is nearly double the opportunities for free travel.
The agreement between the two carriers consists of three key components. Firstly, a combined web and phone reservations referral system, whereby the carriers can offer services to destinations not served by each other. Secondly, a combined frequent flyer programmes, allowing passengers to earn frequent flier miles with either carriers programme. The last key component is the redemption of earned frequent flyer miles in either carriers programmes.
