The airline has become the first Vietnamese carrier to offer online booking with Vietnamese customers joining an Australian and global customer base now able to make reservations at Jetstar.com for all Jetstar Pacific services.
The Qantas Group has an existing 18% holding in Jetstar Pacific and will increase its investment to 30% of the airline in 2010.
Qantas Group Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Dixon, Jetstar CEO, Alan Joyce, and senior executives from the Qantas Group were present in Hanoi to attend an official celebratory gala function.
Jetstar Pacific will allow Australian travellers greater access to a range of Vietnamese destinations, one of the fastest growing tourist destinations for Australian holiday makers.
During 2007, over 150,000 Australians visited Vietnam, a 24% increase on the previous year, underpinned by Jetstar’s introduction since Nov-06 of direct two class A330-200 international services between Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City.
Other destinations within Jetstar Pacific’s domestic network in Vietnam will also be made available in the future to Jetstar’s Australian customers as a through fare when travelling on the carrier’s existing Sydney-Ho Chi Minh City service.
Jetstar Pacific has an existing fleet of four Boeing 737 aircraft with an additional B737 to enter service in June.
The airline last month announced plans for a future fleet of up to 30 Airbus A320 aircraft by 2014 to support its expansion under the Jetstar brand.
This will involve growing services within Vietnam, before undertaking future international operations from late this year into intra Asian markets including Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia.
