Southwest Airlines commenced operations at Washington Dulles International Airport on 05-Oct-06, launching routes to Chicago Midway, Las Vegas, Orlando and Tampa Bay, for a total of 12 daily services

The carrier also plans to offer direct or connecting services to up to 35 other destinations. Southwest will operate from two gates at Concourse B, and is confident that operations at Dulles will generate sufficient passenger growth to overcome a potential shift of passengers away from its hub at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, just 60 miles away, where it operates 172 daily services.
